Why did you need our services – what challenges were you facing?

We are a responsible employer and wanted to make sure that our staff wellbeing was being considered holistically – both inside and outside of the workplace. We were formalising our sickness absence policy, so it made sense to formalise the support that we had in place at the same time.

How does it work in your organisation?

We have made wellbeing part of our policies, rather than ad-hoc, so it is tied into the sickness absence policy.

Once staff have completed their three month probation, they can have three anonymous sessions per year. They self-refer directly to the clinics, so they don’t need to discuss it with managers or anyone else before getting help or treatment, which makes it much faster – and they are much more likely to seek help earlier.

How does it work logistically?

It’s perfect for a small team, as there isn’t a retainer, set-up fees or minimum spend. You help us out as much as we need without adding to our overheads.

What benefits have you actually seen?

Our team is really happy and healthier! This is reflected in lower rates of absenteeism too. We also put details on all of our recruitment information, which helps to attract better quality staff. As a not-for-profit business, we need to keep costs tight, so the additional benefits can really help with how attractive the role is, and with retention of existing staff.

How did the relationship start?

Through renovating the Physiofusion Lancaster clinic – I had foot drop from a tennis injury, had it for 3 years when Sorrel suggested that I saw Sam. Sam fixed it!

Ben has also been seen – after his foot was broken in 4 places. You identified the issue (as it had been missed at the hospital) and got them to operate and pin it.

My Dad has had arm problems, which have been fixed too.

What benefits were you hoping for? What issues were you facing?

It was affecting my work – safety around site, movement, ladder work. It was so inconvenient and costly.

I’ve since moved on from treatment for my foot, to treatment for my back, as I have a chronic disc injury.

How does it work?

I push costs through the business for employees – as it keeps everyone healthy and in work!

I now comes for preventative Physio once a week – which is still much cheaper than taking a day off.

Is there any way that it could have worked differently / better?

I could have come and seen you earlier!

What benefits have you actually seen?

Treatment keeps me at work and improves productivity on site for the team. Ben was back to work much faster after treatment and my Dad is 70 and is still working with us!

The turning point was throwing a stick for Ed (my dog) – I picked it up without thinking and threw it. It took me a few minutes to realise that I hadn’t done this for a couple of years without pain!

How did the relationship start?

I Googled Burnley Physiotherapy as we had a few employees that needed treatment. We use Dr Hebden at Rosegrove Surgery for our private Occupational Health service, and he had heard of you too.

What benefits were you hoping for? What issues were you facing?

Our ethos is to get staff right, support them, and get them back to work. This benefits everyone – the employee themselves, the rest of their team, and the business as a whole.

How does it work?

We have some employees that see you while they are still in work, but we also have some that see you when they are off sick – so we’re working together to try and get them back to work.

We have a very generous sick pay policy – up to 6 months, depending on service.

Is there any way that it could have worked differently / better?

We could speak to you about Manual Handling Training and we include you in our induction process.

We also provide BMI / BP checks via the Rosegrove Chemists.

What benefits have you actually seen?

Our efficiency levels have increased, overtime has dropped and sick pay has reduced – the cost of these when someone is off or unwell, compared to the cost of Physio shows a significant saving.

Employees feel more valued by us as a company too. The benefit is coveted by staff – they are really very appreciative of it.

What else could we do?
